Why Wrist Pain May Actually Be Coming From Your Neck

If you’re experiencing wrist pain, tingling or hand discomfort, it may not always be carpal tunnel syndrome.
Sometimes the source lies higher up — particularly in the neck and shoulder muscles.

How Neck Muscles Refer Pain Down the Arm
Overloaded muscles such as:

  • Scalenes
  • Upper trapezius
  • Levator scapulae

can refer symptoms into the arm, wrist and hand.
If the neck and shoulder region isn’t moving well, nerves and tissues further down the chain can become irritated.

Why Treating Only the Wrist May Not Work
The body works as a connected system. When one area lacks mobility or stability, other areas compensate.

At Days Mill Treatments in Nailsworth, I assess range of motion (ROM) and movement patterns to identify the true driver — not just the painful site.

Treatment may involve:

  • Trigger point therapy
  • Fascial release
  • Neck and shoulder mobility work
  • Simple strengthening advice

If wrist treatment hasn’t brought lasting relief, the neck may be part of the picture.
